چکیده

Multimedia presentations and their applications are becoming more and more popular in most spheres of industry and everyday life. A database approach could help in querying presentations and reusing parts of existing presentations to create new ones. In this paper, we propose an object-oriented model built on a temporal interval tree structure for managing multimedia presentations as temporal databases. This model is based on a class hierarchy that reflects the temporal relationships among multimedia data comprising a presentation. Specifically, we will discuss extending this approach to reusing animations in our presentation database system. Hence, in this paper, based on the objectoriented data model and the database system, we propose storing animations in a database of 3D geometric models and motion descriptions. The reuse of 3D models is a common practice, unlike reusing motion which is rare because it is not as straightforward. Thus, we will explore more on motion reuse techniques. A set of generic and animation-oriented operations are given, which can be used to query and adapt animations for multimedia presentations based on their metadata.

Reusing Motions and Models in Animations

Computer animated 3D models have been increasingly used in multimedia presentations because they can be viewed and manipulated directly in 3D. In this paper, we propose a database approach for this problem. Our main objective is to help authors create multimedia presentations by reusing existing animations. In our approach, animations are stored in databases. We de ne a set of metadata that des...

8 Advanced Uses : Composing Interactive Spatio - temporal Documents

Lately a new generation of application domains is emerging. Such applications, heavily dynamic and interactive, include interactive multimedia applications, virtual reality worlds, digital movies and 3D animations. They deal with intensive spatio-temporal dependencies between the participating objects with motion becoming a central issue. Indeed in the aforementioned application domains, much o...

Communicating Dynamic Behaviors: Are Interactive Multimedia Presentations Better than Static Mixed-Mode Presentations?

Static mixed-mode presentations consisting of verbal explanations illustrated with diagrams have long been used to communicate information. With the advent of multimedia, such presentations have become dynamic, by migrating from paper to the computer and by adding interactivity and animation. The conventional wisdom is that computer-based multimedia presentations are better than printed present...

Web Search with Metadata Links and Multimedia Presentations

6/16/00 Abstract In this paper, we propose adding metadata to web for the purpose of performing semantics-based web searches and for producing multimedia presentations as a response to users’ requests. The model uses (a) topics and “topic maps” as metadata in reaching to relevant worldwide web documents, (b) topic prerequisites and corequisites, also called topic metalinks, to define metadata-b...
